Choosing a Proxy Domain

There are a few routes you can take when getting a proxy domain:

1. Buy an existing domain
You can find domains to buy at places like NamePros, Digital Point and sitepoint. These domains will often have the word proxy in, have a google PR and some traffic. This is probably the most expensive option. It will cost between $20 for a PR1 to $80 for PR3. If the domains have traffic then these prices can triple.

2. Use a random domain you have lying around
You can use any old domain you have lying around. This is FREE for you but remember you will have to spend lots of money advertising it and this may be more expensive than option 1. To advertise the domain check out the proxy topsites, for example proxy.org. Having a domain without the word proxy in it can be better as they are less likely to be blocked by school/office networks.

3. Register a .com/.net/.org
You can choose to register a .com/.net/.org . This will cost around $8 but you will have to spend around $100 marketing it. I would not recommend this option!

4. Buy a .info
.info’s are cheap and perfect for proxy’s. At godaddy they cost a mere 99 cents! If you get a memorable name you can have a very popular proxy in a few weeks. Advertising will cost around $100 but it will be worth it in the long run.

Tune in later for info on how to setup your proxy site!
